GLOWSCAPE SEPTEMBER 2024

Studio 8 Artists in residence Will McLoughlin, Eoghan O Kelly, Eoin Killigrew and Cadhla Forde transformed the vibrant Portershed event space into an otherworldly realm through light, projections, sculptures, and a notable Kinetic Sensor experience for Galway City Culture Night 2024.

This interactive sensory installation captures and mimics visitors' movements, allowing them to flow and dance through the room, creating a dynamic and engaging environment. Paired with light art and music, this experience promises to transport visitors for a couple of hours into a captivating, ethereal world.

‘My piece deals with how illness and physical trauma affect the human body. In this case the work depicts a seizure, with the body appearing stretched and contorted as a result of the spasms. The misshapen ribcage houses a flashing red light which brings to the mind the frenzied nature of a seizure.

Both sculptures are based on my own recent experience with illness, and how my body has changed as a result’ Eoghan O Kelly.

Glowscape (2024) incorporated interactive elements that actively engaged the audience, aiming to transport participants into an otherworldly experience. The project sought to dissolve the traditional boundaries between viewer and artwork, positioning the audience as an integral part of the work itself. By challenging conventional approaches to the presentation of visual art in galleries, Glowscape fostered an inclusive and welcoming environment. This approach created an accessible starting point for community members to engage with visual art without fear of judgement, encouraging participation, socialisation, and connection.
